My review of “Dead Alive” by Jane Santos and Alek Gearhart, on the channel SmokingAlien3.
First of all, I’ve been following your activities since the first teaser of “Joker Rising”. Honestly, I think it’s the best fan work (to me it’s a stand alone movie, better than a big part of what Hollywood does) I’ve ever seen. I accepted this piece of amazing work as a canon. But we’re here to talk about this new movie.
“Dead Alive” has some very good things in it. I’m sorry if you find it harsh, I just try to be constructive.
The acting of Danny Pardo was very good. Sadly, Jane Santos wasn’t on the same level (it was still good) as him, but mostly because her character wasn’t written as well.
The story is good, but Jane was a little left apart and there was this “intensity” problem. The death of their daughter was a strong moment, after that there was a “hole” with the attorney part, and then again a strong moment with him trying to kill her. That jump between the key scenes was a little empty. I don’t know, it’s my own feelings on the matter.
As usual, the camera and the visual part is gorgeous. The tiny tiny detail that bothered me (I know I’m being bitchy) was when the camera zoomed in without reason on Jane’s face during the card scene. The parallel between the water flowing was a good detail and the lenght was okay.
The music and sound effects were good. You should try one day to make a short film without talking and some music only in the credits, that would be great, you’ve got talent guys.
So yes, this mini film is good, and I give it a solid 7/10.
I wish you all good luck and I’m waiting for your next works.
